Dr. Jansky and Me (34 weeks)

Yesterday was quick and painless. My blood pressure is back down to normal and Carson's heartbeat is strong! I also pre-registered at the hospital, so they say I'm all ready. I guess now we just keep waiting, and of course I keep visiting the doctor every week.

Oh here we go!

Well, what can I say, I'm going to be a mom.

I came across a really touching blog today (a friend of a friend of a friend) - essentially, someone I've never even heard of, but reading it made me start crying. Then my crying escalated a little bit, so I had to get up and shut my door (did I mention this was at work?). So of course I keep reading the blog and looking at pictures, crying all the more, when one of our new college interns comes to my office (in response to a possibly angry email I had sent him earlier.)

The situation was so pitiful it was actually funny. I'm quickly trying to wipe my eyes and explain myself: "sorry, Robbie, I was looking at a sad blog" (how ridiculous!) and he's too embarrassed to even look at me. By the time we were through, I had composed myself, but when he had a follow up question 10 minutes later - he called.

All this to say, my co-workers are now witnessing the effects of my hormonies making me crazy - at least its something we can all laugh about (except for Robbie - I think he might have some more processing to do).

Dr. Jansky and Me (33 wks)

Went to the Dr today - remembered to bring a good book this time. The nurse was very reassuring about my 3 lb weight gain and said it's all baby (we both knew better, though ;)
My blood pressure is high, which isn't good. I've never had high blood pressure (even during pregnancy) so because of that, my appts will now be only 1 week apart! Yikes, I don't know if I have that much time to sit around at the Dr's office! She also told me to go pre-register at the hospital, which I didn't have time to do that either - maybe next week.
Carson is head down, which confirms those kicks in the ribs - but they aren't that bad. And finally, I'm measuring 34 - still don't know what unit of measurement goes with that number, but she always gives an approving nod when she reads it, so I figure that's good.
So all in all, "I'm trucking along" (in her words). I'm crossing my fingers for an early arrival - say at 37 weeks, but that's probably being a bit ambitious.

Baby Shower Fun!!!

Last Saturday was such an incredible blessing as a few of my closest friends and family joined forces to throw a baby shower for us! It was so so much fun and came at the perfect time to renew our baby excitement. Our house has received a total baby transformation - with strollers, pack 'n plays, toys, blankets ... all over! I thought that it would always stress me out to have a house full of baby/kid stuff everywhere, but it actually makes me really excited! So here are some pics from the fun day:

Carson David Roberts

We have picked a name! It took Daniel and me a long time to decide what we would name our baby. We both have strong opinions and different decision-making styles which actually led to a bit of conflict - so good practice for the many decision-making opportunities I'm sure we'll have as parents.
At first we were pretty sure we'd go with a Bible name, but felt that most were either too generic, or didn't go well with "Roberts".
We thought a lot about family names as well, and most became contenders for the baby's middle name. Hence, "David". It's the best of both worlds: Bible name and a Roberts' family name.
Carson is a name I've liked for a long time and doesn't have a meaning or tradition really, but we both felt like it was a strong, masculine name that sounds good with Roberts.
So kudos to all you parents who have named kids without scarring them for life - it is our hope that we will join your ranks as well.

Dr Jansky and Me (month 8)

Well, actually Dr. Jansky is on vacation, so I met w/ a different Dr from the practice. There's nothing to mention really from this visit - everything looks good. I even had a normal weight gain this past month, which was very relieving :)
Next check up is in two weeks.

Vacation!!!

I just got back yesterday from an extended weekend spent with two of my college roommates in Wisconsin!
Allison and Holly are two of my closest friends - we lived together our senior year at A&M with Lori who has had a big summer herself (she got married earlier in July). We spent the weekend relaxing at Big Bass lake where Holly's in-laws have a cabin. It was so much fun - and I can't wait for the entire Roberts clan to join them up there soon! Holly just had her second baby, Addie (who I absent-mindedly forgot to photograph) six weeks ago. She now has two - Greta, her oldest, is 21 mos. I also loved seeing the reality of day-to-day living with two little ones. Holly is an AMAZING mother (we always knew she would be) and I picked up tons of great mommy tips from her!

Sweet Greta (who I miss terribly)
